The Region of Crete, the University of Crete and the Natural History Museum of Crete organized in presence, on 4 and 5 October 2022, the Greek study visit.

Many the locations visited during the meeting:

  1. the Paleontological Museum of Rethymno
  2. the Valide Sultan Mosque
  3. the Music School building of Rethymno and the Neratze Mosque
  4. the Sohora Square
  5. the Institute for Mediterranean studies

The program of the Greek meeting

After the welcome speech from the vice governor of the Region of Crete for EU projects, George Alexakis, and the introduction to the agenda from Nikos Votsoglu, of Region of Crete, the works continued with this schedule:

  1. Geological conditions and Seismic history of Crete – Charalambos Fassoulas, University of Crete, and Ermioni Gialliti, Region of Crete
  2. The City of Rethymno and its Monuments – Ephorate of Archeology, Rethuymno

  3. ‘Seismic vulnerability of a Old City:  pre-and post-seismic assessment and reconstruction techniques in Greece’ – Aris Xatzidakis, Civil Engineer

  4. Building of the Regional Unit of Rethymno: Presentation of the seismic reinforcement survey“ – Bardakis Vasilios, Civil Engineer

  5. Reconstruction and renovation of historic buildings: On site challenges –  Giannis Polichronakis, Civil Engineer, Chiara Armando, Architect

In the afternoon of 4 October the group visited the historical locations of Rethymno.

The second day of the Greek study visit was dedicated to a technical meeting of Adriseismic project.
